KOMUNIPASS Essentials for Competent Action and Intercultural Communication

Competent Communication and Action in Intercultural interactions

Our intercultural compact module will convey the necessary expertise to you step by step and will develop your strongest methodological and social skills systematically.

The module consists of two parts (the module content of parts 1 and 2 are identical to the training modules 1 to 4 of the KOMUNIPASS eBook training series).

Part 1:

  • Transfer of necessary basic knowledge / Understanding cultures and competence
  • Develop / strengthen your cultural understanding and awareness
  • Develop your first individual action strategy for intercultural action situations

Part 2:

  • Who are you really? Perceive your "cultural conditioning" consciously
  • Identity development, self-perception and perception of others in intercultural encounters
  • Fundamentals of intercultural communication
  • Develop your personal orientation model
  • Develop your communication skills and methodological abilities

Your Benefits

Based on your existing skills, you get to know how to develop your individual capacity to act and you also learn how to

  • understand the dynamics of intercultural contact situations
  • identify different perception patterns and assess their importance in intercultural communication,
  • reflect on the importance of your own cultural identity,
  • take into account the role of identity, its composition and negotiation during interactions
  • interpret statements and messages correctly and adapt your individual communication style to intercultural action situations
  • identify conflicts in advance to avoid or act them out adequately,
  • better assess your business or personal environment,
  • develop and apply action strategies for the encounter with "culturally different" people,
  • culturally-oriented, active listening,
  • understand and bring about cultural change processes,
  • assess the prospects of success and the cultural potential of future and ongoing collaborations and relationships more clearly,
  • develop new perspectives more quickly and use them to solve tasks and challenges according to the respective environment,
  • develop and maintain intercultural networks sustainably.

In order to deal with communication gaps constructively, various action strategies will help you to avoid, understand and learn from misunderstandings caused by communication conventions that differ from each other (e.g. culture clash). You will understand why communication is almost always intercultural and how you can apply your acquired skills, together with the new knowledge, in your daily routine, in your home country.

You will also learn more about yourself. Not only will you get to know how you define yourself and how you create your own world view, but you will also find out more about how you interpret your own identity and reality. These basic insights represent an important step towards intercultural understanding and intercultural competence.

Who should participate?

Due to its interdisciplinary content and exercises, the Training is suitable for virtually all areas of life. This Module was especially designed for

  • experts, consultants, university and business school teachers engaged in subject areas like global integration, expansion strategy, international marketing, market entry planning, mergers & acquisitions (M&A), cultural due diligence, post merger integration, joint venture cooperation management;
  • professionals and executives to whom diversity management, international team building and cooperation plays a major role in intercultural teams;
  • expatriates and foreign students who are either living abroad, or are just preparing for an assignment or studies abroad;
  • HR experts engaged in areas like personnel development, organisational and corporate culture, change management of social systems, as well as migration and integration;
  • top managers and politicians responsible for major international negotiations, relations, alliances or cooperation, and willing to develop their own intercultural competence, their co-workers’ or their trainees’ capabilities.

The Training does not teach you about individual, country-specific dos and don’ts, nor will it teach you about the how-to’s of doing business in Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, North and Latin America, Brazil, Argentina, Russia, India, China (BRIC states), or Japan, and there will be no need for you to learn all this by heart. What you will learn, however, is how to build up an orientation system, or model, at any time by means of your newly acquired competencies in order to understand, adapt yourself to every individual situation, and act accordingly.
